To Mention or Not To Mention…
We all know that people are very judgmental and have something to say about almost anything that is posted on social media. People comment both on and off Facebook and other social media platforms about pictures, articles, what people like, etc…
Today I reached a fine line between whether to mention something that seemed a bit risqué to my daughter or to just let it go. I mean, she is in college and has always been appropriate with how she presents herself on social media. I don’t usually comment and I try to have the look from afar approach. We have spent the past several years making sure that our kids know how to behave like upstanding citizens and present themselves accordingly. Reminding them that everyone sees everything.
I am aware that being in college goes hand-in-hand with lots of fun (and learning), and there might be things that are a bit different than the high school posts that were not that long ago. I am ok with that…
However, over the past few days, I had noticed several posts that my daughter liked that were far from anything she would normally be putting on Facebook. I thought to myself, that seems strange, maybe it is a joke with her friends or a sorority prank. Day 2, I continued to see more of these posts and began to wonder why my friends weren’t saying anything to me. I even said to myself should I say anything?! She is in college and she can like what she wants and I shouldn’t get involved. Then I thought, maybe she didn’t realize that everyone was seeing what she liked. Next thought, she will be annoyed if I say something…
Well, I decided to casually mention the posts and here is the conversation that follows. I don’t remember the last time I laughed this hard!!!
I would have to say, when something doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t so speak up…
